Fantabulous Friday Freebies- Fractions

We started today off with a 2 hour delay because of freezing rain....and then it turned into a 'snow' day!!  Woohoo!  :)

We didn't get any snow days last year which is rare in Ohio, but we got a 'freezing rain' day today so I'll take it!! 

Since I was already up (and ready for school) I thought I would go ahead and post my Fantabulous Friday Freebies that I used this week.  

These are not freebies that I have created, but found on TpT and thought they were so great I had to share.  If you use them, make sure to leave some wonderful feedback!  

We have been learning fractions in math and my kiddos were kinda lost in the beginning.  The new common core standards in math don't take fractions real deep, but I went ahead and extended it because I think it helps my kiddos understand better when the top number (which I know is called the numerator) isn't always a 1.  I think when we first learn fractions, they just think every fraction has a 1 on top so we learned otherwise.  :)

We played Scoot for the first time this year.  I'll be honest...I was a little nervous about playing with my big class this year, but they were awesome!!  I told them it was going to take great listening skills to play and they were totally on target.  I will be finding more scoot games for sure!  

We also used these fraction flashcards for a quick practice.  Some of my kiddos have trouble remembering 1/2 is one-half and not one-two so going through these flash cards was a quick reminder.  They do go up to 12/12, but I didn't go up that high!  

I also found this Roll, Slide, and Cover game.  My kiddos will play this as one of their Math with Someone games during the month of March as a review.  The directions are given in the description.  

I feel like my kiddos have a much better understanding of fractions now which makes this teacher very happy!  :)

My brother teaches in a nearby school district so I had to text him this morning and share my good news of a snow day!  He let me know he was giving a quiz to his first period class.  I think he was jealous!  :)

I am going to use this pack to hang up outside my room in the hallway.  Adorable!  

This pack is a great little book that your kiddos can put together after reading about MLK Jr.  My kiddos love making books!  :)

We are starting our penguin research next week and this little nonfiction book will be perfect!  Love it!  :)

Fantabulous Friday Freebies- 10 More/Less and Place Value

I'm finally back with another Fantabulous Friday Freebie post!  I took a break over the holidays and it feels like it's been forever since I've shared some wonderful freebies.  It's good to be back!! 

I used some of these freebies this week and they were so well loved by my kiddos that I had to share.  The others are in the plans for next week....

One of our Math By Myself games this month has 10 more and 10 less so we had to do some extra practice this week.  This free packet was a great help for my kiddos!  

We played this roll and add New Year's game for some quick practice this week.  My kiddos LOVED it!  You definitely need to save this one for next year! 

Our phonics lesson this week was y sounding like an i or e at the end of a word.  I found this cute little freebie and used it this week.  There is a poem to read about Detective Y and we circled all of the y words and then there is a word sort...great freebie!

Another math skill we have been working on is understanding place value.  I feel like my kiddos are doing a great job of double digit and triple digit addition and subtraction, but I think they're still struggling with place value.  I found this I Have Who Has game and we're going to play it next week.  We've played I Have Who Has before but with sight words.  My kiddos loved it so I'm hoping this will go over well too!  :)

This is the same game, but this freebie has tens and ones instead of just the numbers.  We'll try this version too!  :)

Fantabulous Friday Freebies- With Love and Prayers!

My heart is broken over the sad news from Sandy Hook Elementary School.  I am in tears even as I type.  My weekend will be full of Christmas shopping, baking cookies, and wrapping presents while families in Connecticut are mourning the loss of their children, students, teachers, administrators, and friends.  

I'm at a loss for words.  All I can say is that I am praying for all of the families affected by this tragedy.  I can't even imagine the pain and sorrow they feel.  

We had a practice lockdown with police yesterday and that made some of my kids nervous.  I can't imagine the horror those kids felt and saw today in Connecticut.  My heart is just breaking.  

I had already typed the following post so I will share it with you because I found some more great freebies, but I now share them with a heavy heart....

This is a cute Christmas penguin craftivity!

We are celebrating Christmas Around the World next week and I'm teaching about Christmas in Australia.  I found this adorable Snow Globe Santa and I'm so excited!  Isn't he cute?!?!

My kiddos already made these gingerbread fact family  houses and loved them!  It was a great review of fact families.  

These aren't specifically Christmas, but I love these snow globe organizers!  They can be used all winter!  :)

Fantabulous Friday Freebie- Christmas and Nonfiction

It's Friday!!  Time for Fantabulous Friday Freebie again!  :)

I have found a few more Christmas freebies and a nonfiction freebie I want to share with you.  We have been discussing nonfiction text features this week and I found a great freebie to show my kiddos!  

Here they are: 

This is a cute little activity.  The kiddos read the poem and try to figure out the last word of each line.  They can then draw a picture of each word as they go and at the end they will have made a Santa.  Love this idea!  

These cookies are a great way to review silent e words.  This will be a fun way to practice reading and spelling those tricky words this week!  

This is another great freebie from Amy Lemons!  She has several fun Christmas activities in here.  

We have been learning about nonfiction text features in my class so I have been looking for nonfiction activities.  As I was searching I found these great posters!  This shows my kiddos exactly what I'm talking about when discussing nonfiction texts.

Fantabulous Friday Freebie- Thanksgiving!

I am actually early with this Fantabulous Friday post!  Miracles do happen!  :) 

Actually, my hubby and I have a date tonight so I had to get this done early.  I found some really cute Thanksgiving freebies that I had to share.

Lisa Richling created this wonderful Thanksgiving How To Writing Pack.  There are 10 different writing prompts with a couple different planning pages and a final copy page.  This is great for Thanksgiving and sequencing!   

Erin Palleschi created this cute Thanksgiving reader.  My kiddos will put it together and then we will practice our fluency after marking the sight words.    

More Than Math by Mo created this adorable ABC order activity!

Kennedy's Korner created these great Thanksgiving story problems.  There are several on a page.  I am going to cut them along the dotted lines so I can mix up the addition and subtraction.  My kiddos could use some help understanding their story problems!  :)

Blair Turner created this cute little turkey that could be used for the Main Idea of a story, math facts, or a thankful turkey.  My kiddos always love making turkeys!

Fantabulous Friday Freebie- Election Day

Happy Fantabulous Friday!  

I am exhausted so I am very happy that it is Friday.    

We had conferences last night and I was at school late on Wednesday too so this post is going to be short, sweet, and to the point.  :)

Keep it Cute has created several cute banners and they are all FREE!!  This one I am going to hang up for our classroom election.  Not exactly educational, but it's adorable so I had to share!!  :)

Fantabulous Friday Freebie and Daily Five Conference

Happy Fantabulous Friday!  I'm actually posting my Friday Freebie on Friday.  Woohoo!  

I have such a great weekend planned...I'm headed to *Chicago* in the morning with my friend Christina to attend the Daily Five Conference!! I've also got my winner for my 300 follower giveaway!  

CHICAGO!!  I love Chicago and I love Daily Five so this weekend is going to be amazing.  I'm sooooo excited!  Are any of you headed to the Daily Five Conference?  It's going to be 4 days.  Daily Five on Sunday, Cafe on Monday, Daily Five on Tuesday, and Cafe on Wednesday.  We're just going to the Cafe part on Monday.  We've both used Daily Five for a few years, but want to learn more about Cafe.  Maybe we could have a mini blogger meet-up??

We both told our students that we were going to be traveling to Chicago this weekend together.  I told my kiddos that Mrs. Wagers and I are really tight...they thought that was so funny!  I also told them she's going to sing our phonics poems to me to keep me awake for the long drive!!  

I have several wonderful freebies this week.  I like to share quality freebies that I find through Pinterest or Teachers Pay Teachers for my Fantabulous Friday Freebies.  Teaching is a very collaborative field so I want to share some of my great finds. 

We have been learning about Cause and Effect during reading this week.  To help with that we have read Laura Numeroff's series If You Give a...  We started with If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, but read lots of others including the original If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.  Here is what we used this week:

Fantabulous Friday Freebie- Bats!

Ready for another Fantabulous Friday Freebie on Saturday?!  I should really make it Fantabulous Saturday Freebie, but that just doesn't have the same ring to it!  

This week my kiddos learned a lot about bats!!  We had our Open House and Fall Festival on Thursday evening so we had to get our bats ready for the hall.  They were adorable and the kiddos loved making them.  

Here are some of the bat activities we did this week.  Some of them are free and some of them I paid for but I had to share them because they are so cute.  If you haven't learned about bats yet I highly recommend you do.  The kiddos loved it and I have learned that they're not slimy, gross creatures that are going to land in my hair and suck my blood!  I learned some great bat facts too!  :)

 

Here are some of the bat books we read.  We discussed the difference between fiction and nonfiction.  We also read Stellaluna.

Cara Carroll created this great story map using Stellaluna.  We created a story map this week too as we learned about problems and solutions in stories.  Click here to visit Cara's blog post about bats and get some great bat freebies!! 

We learned that bats can eat 600 mosquitoes in an hour!  Just another reason why we LOVE bats!!  The kiddos loved cutting out and gluing these mosquitoes.  Click here to get this bat freebie pack from Jodi at Fun in First.  :) 

We also learned that the largest bat has a wingspan of 6 feet and the smallest bat has a wingspan of 5 inches.  This is also in Jodi's pack.  Click the link above!

The yarn represents their wings.  My kiddos were amazed at how big a bat can get!   

My friend Christina at Sugar and Spice taught her class about owls.  After both of our classes were experts about our animals we got together and taught each other what we had learned about bats and owls.  It was so much fun!  We created this Venn Diagram together as we learned about similarities and differences between each animal.  Then we hung them up in the hall to share with parents for Open House.  

Here is a close up of the bats we made.  They had diagrams inside and then we wrote bat facts on the inside of their wings.  So cute!  This bat craftivity came from Lita.  Click here to purchase it for only $1.50.  It comes in English and Spanish!!

          

We posted some bat facts up in the hall on this chart we made.  I heard lots of parents reading it that didn't even have kiddos in my class.  It was very cool to hear parents and other kiddos reading and learning about bats!  They were shocked that bats have thumbs and fingers just like we do!  

We also took a vote to see who was still scared of bats after all we had learned.  I wish I had done this before too because I think we would have had very different results.  Both the bat facts and voting activity can be found by clicking here to purchase this AWESOME bat, spider, and pumpkin unit from Julie!

So this was our week about bats!  We have a few more things to do next week and then we'll move on to spiders and pumpkins.

Fantabulous Friday Freebies- 2 Freebies This Week!!

Happy Fantabulous Friday Freebie on Saturday!!  I got home really late last night and could not hold my eyes open anymore so I had to go straight to bed.  I think I walked through the house with my eyes closed I was so tired!  :)

I'm going to share 2 freebies with you to make up for it.  We have been talking about nouns in my class the last couple of weeks.  I found these adorable pictures on Pinterest and knew we had to do this!

  

I forgot to take a picture of our nouns, but ours are hanging up in the hall and they're so cute!  I had to create a template since there wasn't one provided so I'm sharing mine with you!  It's nothing fancy at all.  It is just a leaf and an acorn, but it will make it real easy for you to get started and to make them quickly.  Click here if you want that freebie.  Click here if  you want the poster I created to hang in the hall.  

My kiddos wrote 4 nouns so there are 4 lines on the leaf- 1 person, 1 place, 1 thing, and 1 animal.

While I was searching through some of my favorite blogs for some noun activities I found Amy Lemon's Noun Adjectives Freebie!  

You definitely need to go and download her noun freebie.  It has a noun sort, common and proper nouns chart, and finding nouns around your room activity.  It's great and my kiddos loved it.  If you download it, make sure you show your thanks!  :)
