States of Matter and TpT Sale!

We had such a great day today! We celebrated a birthday and my birthday kiddo brought ice cream!  Yum!  Then we also did a science experiment and ate popsicles.  Yum! Yum! 

We have been learning about the States of Matter in Science over the last couple of weeks.  Today we made popsicles and discussed solids versus liquids.  

I bought this great States of Matter pack awhile ago on TpT and was so happy to finally use it!

This morning I poured some punch in the cups and my kiddos put a popsicle stick in each cup.  Then I carried the cups to the freezer in our lunch room.  This afternoon I went to get them and carried them back in a box.  My kiddos were so excited to see if the liquid froze!

They were so excited when they realized they could pull the frozen popsicle out of the cup!  

This kiddo was a little surprised that it worked and came out in one piece!  

We made a hypothesis of what would happen, but my kiddos are pretty smart and figured it out!  :)

There is an experiment form to fill out with all the experiments in this pack.  My kiddos recorded what materials we used, the process of our experiment, their hypothesis, and their conclusion.  Tomorrow we're making a liquid rainbow...just in time before Saint Patrick's Day!

Penguin Experiment and Super Bowl SALE!

Thursday was our first day back after an unplanned week long winter break....also known as snow/calamity/too cold days!  

I had to wrap up our penguin unit this week so I had to eliminate a couple activities since we only had 2 days this week instead of 5.  However, there was no way I could cancel our blubber experiment!  I told my kiddos they were going to see what it felt like to be a penguin and they were sooooo excited!  

It's so easy and provides such a clear understanding for your kiddos how blubber keeps penguins warm and able to live in such a cold, harsh environment.  

You just need Crisco, baggies, water, and 2 bowls.  I accidentally forgot the bowls so we used a couple tubs I had at school. 

I asked every kiddo which hand was warmer and if they could even feel the cold water through the 'blubber'.  None of them could and they were shocked!  It really showed them how penguins are able to survive!  

I missed our 100th Day of School yesterday because my mama had surgery on Tuesday and I was able to take her home from the hospital yesterday!  She was soooo ready to go home!  My student teacher did our 100th Day activities and said my kiddos loved them, but since I wasn't there I don't have any pictures this year!

Countdown to Summer...with Good Behavior!

I don't know how your kiddos are doing, but mine are definitely feeling the nearness of summer!!

I honestly can't blame them though, because I am too!  

I am going to share my secret with you to encourage good behavior despite the end of the year craziness!  

It's my *STAR* activities and you can find them in my May Activity Pack and End of Year Countdown to Summer!!  This pack includes a countdown to summer with fabulous, but cheap *star* activities.  

Your kiddos who are responsible and shine like stars during the day get to enjoy a fabulous star activity at the end of the day.  Your kiddos who don't follow, or have a temporary memory loss and forget the rules don't get to participate.  

All day long you can walk by our room and hear me say, you better show me 'green' behavior or you won't get to do our star activity at the end of the day!  It's also a great way to reward your kiddos who do try hard everyday to be responsible!

They just hang up on a bulletin board.  We started on day 22 this year.  Sorry it's hard to see the top stars.  The glare was terrible...as is my camera!

I had leftover sidewalk chalk from last year so we went outside last week.  It was such a hit that I picked up some more!

I LOVE Macy's!  They have a huge selection and I am always getting coupons from them in the mail.  Who doesn't love to use a good coupon?!  I have found great items on clearance too.

I really don't watch too much TV, but I love Criminal Minds.  It scares me sometimes, but they always solve the murders!  They're amazing!  :)

I love a good doughnut.  Put a little cream inside and I'm in love.  :)

Spring Cleaning Sale

I have been on Spring Break this week and I have enjoyed it so much!!

We got several inches of snow last night/this morning.  I love how we always get snow on the weekends, but never get enough during the week for a snow day!  I REALLY enjoy those snow days!  :)

That's why it's one of my pet peeves not getting a snow day.  I also included lying....from students or anyone.  It drives me crazy!  

I also get really annoyed when I'm stuck behind a slow driver in the left lane.  I don't mind if you want to drive slow, but don't do it in the left lane and make me drive slow too!!  :)

One more thing before I'm off to go shopping with my hubby....there is a big TpT sale tomorrow!  I'm having a 20% off sale at my store and TpT is giving another 10% off if you use the code Super when you check out.

Reindeer, Ornaments, and a Winter Sale

It's here!  I'm finally on Christmas break!  Woohoo!!  :)

My kiddos were great this week considering everything going on, but it is nice to know that I can stay up late and sleep in for two whole weeks.   

I'm waiting on my hubby to go finish up our Christmas shopping.  I can't believe we have to go out tonight with all the craziness and the weather, but I'd rather do it tonight than tomorrow.  

While I'm waiting I wanted to show you my day in pictures:

These reindeer came from Just Wild About Teaching and my kiddos loved them!  The reindeer facts page came from my Night Before Christmas Activity Pack.  

 These are the quick, made up on the fly cute ornaments we made to send home as gifts today.  I saw something similar on Pinterest, but realized I didn't have the poms to decorate it as they did so I used glitter.  I also wanted to add their picture so we put them on the trunks with the year.  That's okay for first grade, right?  Parents love anything their kiddos make...at least that's what I keep telling myself!  :)

I got several gifts today from my kiddos, but this one I had to share with you.  The little boy that gave me this silverware could not be any cuter.  He is absolutely adorable and is so kind and sweet.  Well, earlier this week we were working on our Christmas present writings that I posted about a couple days ago.  I was trying to give them ideas of what to write about without them wanting to copy my idea so I told them a story.  I call my husband 'Hubby Bubby' and my kids think that is hilarious.  Well, Hubby Bubby has lost some of my forks and now when we sit down to dinner it sometimes takes us awhile to find enough forks to eat with so I told my kiddos that I needed new silverware for Christmas.  This sweet little boy obviously told his mom that so today I received two packages of silverware in our school colors.  It's such a thoughtful gift.  I emailed his mom after school and told her I loved them!  :)  

I think I am going to give them to Hubby Bubby and tell him that those are the only forks he can use!  :)
