Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

Last Sunday was Dr. Seuss' birthday so we had quite a celebration last week!

If you had been on Pinterest in the last few weeks then you knew last week was his birthday.  There are some REALLY creative people out there...and I'm so glad they shared their ideas with me!  :)

Most of our activities came from Pinterest.  You can find the links to some Dr. Seuss activities and pictures on my Spring Board *here*.

I want to share a couple of our pics with you from this week:

We made yummy Cat in the Hat treats and read about Dr. Seuss' life!

We also read The Lorax, a Dr. Seuss poem, and drew our own Dr. Seuss characters.

These are the truffala trees we made!  I was hoping to do more with this activity, but it took wayyyyyyy longer than I expected so we wrapped it up as an art project!   :)

I used the *FREE* Photo Grid app to make my first couple of pictures.  I've had the app for awhile, but haven't spent much time with it.  The last couple of weeks I have had lots of fun manipulating my pictures.  It is soooo easy to do and you can add all kinds of features.

We wrapped up our Dr. Seuss week with some red fish and more Dr. Seuss stories.  One funny little story is that my student teacher was reading Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? and one of my kiddos told her to wait because she wasn't reading all of the animal sounds!  He was teaching her how to do a read aloud and it was so funny!  :)

I hope you had fun celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday!  If you have any other fun Dr. Seuss ideas, I would love to hear about them!  :)

I *Heart* Pinterest Videos and Freebies

I want to share some wonderful things I have found on Pinterest lately!

I really *heart* Pinterest and it has saved me sooo many times!  :)

This is what we will be doing next week in science for our weather unit.  My kiddos will LOVE it!  :)

Look how adorable this bulletin board is?!?!  We will be recreating this too!

I have already started using this app for my classroom library.  I have some helpers that visit each week that have enjoyed using my iPhone for this.  It will make looking for books in my classroom library so much easier!

This has saved me this year.  I have an Autistic kiddo that needed a safe space in our room so now we have 'Alaska'.  It's a place where he can 'hide', play with sensory toys, and chill out for a few minutes.  It has worked wonderfully.

This video was our introduction to pronouns this past week and now my kiddos ask for it every day....even one of my boys who really struggles with paying attention asks for it and told me he has taught it to his dad!  How cool is that?!

We sang this to help us with our doubles.  We then extended our doubles facts up to 10...and of course we created motions to go with it.

You can find any of these wonderful Pinterest finds on my boards.  I hope you can use something here!

Now I'm off to enjoy this sunny day!  Woohoo for spring!  :)

My Deep Love for Pinterest and a Fourth of July Freebie

Wow, was I motivated today!  Woohoo!  I love days like this when I get soooo much done.  Mind you I didn't do any school work, but I sure got my house clean!  :)

In all honesty, I spent an exceptional amount of time on Pinterest today.  I have a deep love for all things Pinterest.  For real....I may need counseling.

I really was looking for quick and easy ways to clean my washing machine because it REALLY needed it, but I also found these wonderful ideas:
First day project: Friend Tree. Everyone puts their thumb print on the tree then teacher later frames it and hangs it as a reminder that we are all friends.
I so want to do this during the first week of school.  So sweet.  Every student puts their thumb print on the friendship tree.  Hang it up in the room and it can be a great reminder of the friends we have.

My adaptation of a great idea found on Pinterest-Making Memories in __ Grade. "Write down anything you want the class to remember this school year. We will read the papers throughout the last week of school. (Started the first week of school. This jar is jam-packed full and we still have a few more weeks left!)
I ask my kiddos at the end of the year what they liked the most about first grade and this would be a great reminder of all the fun activities we do!

Subtraction Mat: I am going to do this next year. Great idea..
This will be a great way to help my struggling kiddos with math facts.

Already have a bunch of water bottle lids!! Great idea for a math center!
This is my idea of a Pinterest 'craft'!  I'm already saving my water bottle lids.  I think I can make this one...I'm keeping my fingers crossed though.  :)

Probably one of the coolest Ideas I've seen so far!! **Engineer prints at staples for 5 bucks!!! Who knew?!?!
This one was for the home.  I just LOVED this picture idea.  So cute and so cheap!  Now, I just need the two kids....

How to Clean your Washing Machine - Somewhat Simple
And, here is my washing machine cleaning tip of the day.  THANK YOU Pinterest!  I had way too much detergent built up in mine, but it's all good now!

These are just a few of the pins I have pinned lately.  I'm seriously getting my Pinterest on this summer and I LOVE it!

Here is my link if you're really interested in what I have done the last few days...My Pinterest Boards.  :)

Now, if I could just find the creativity to actually complete some of these wonderful ideas!

I want to leave  you with a Fourth of July Freebie before I go!  This is from my Memorial Day and Fourth of July Pack.  I'm going to be adding more patriotic holidays this summer...it's on my to-do list.

I was just too busy today to get it done though.  Pinteresting was at the top of my list!  I love that word by the way...Pinteresting.  Yep.  That perfectly describes my day.  :)

*Happy Birthday*, America!  THANK YOU to all of those who have served, are serving, or will serve our country.  It's the best place to live!  :)
